Residents' Project: SFM Mother's Booklet

In order to inform our OB patients that family physicians could deliver their babies, but also be their baby's doctor, Selma Family Medicine residents began this project. With input from many sources and photos of our residents caring for babies in the clinic, the Mother's Booklet was born. This 20 page booklet guides the new mother through baby's first year and beyond. It covers crying, sleeping, breast feeding, bottle feeding, burping, care of the umbilical cord, cradle cap, rashes, diarrhea, colic, fever, teething, immunizations and much more. The booklet is included in the prenatal package that the patient receives and also the physicians give them to the mothers after delivery. The response has been overwhelming. The project was deemed a success.
